Why Writing Is Good For You

Have you ever felt like no one will listen to anything you have to say? I feel that way all time. That’s one of the reason that I like writing.

The blank page has to listen to the words you put forth, and must take them in. Writing frees the voices in our heads, frees the pain we hold onto inside, and helps us heal. Writing works the synapses of the brain, sharpening our knowledge of language, and allowing us more capacity to think and express ourselves. Writing allows us to explore other places, times, and lives much like reading.

Writing is especially good for older generations as it allows them to live through their past and put something down, using a part of their brain that in our society, is ignored. Creative expression is incredibly healing for all people and writing is one way to do that.

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing, and with writing that is the same. It is possible to overdo it, and I’m a prime example of that. I’ve overdone writing, and now have to rest before I can plunge back in. The problem is the rest is nice, but one can’t rest forever.

Happy writing!
