This past weekend was the Mt. San Antonio College Writer’s Weekend, hosted at the community college located in Walnut, CA. The event took place Friday through Sunday.
I presented “Start Your First Story” that went well on Saturday afternoon. Perhaps another title would have worked better to attract students, as I didn’t truly discuss just the first story. Of course, sometimes as a writer, each story feels like the first story. In any regards, I feel the session went very well, and I heard that the writer/students that attended enjoyed the material (if one of them is you, welcome!).
I unfortunately had to miss the first day, but I attended both Saturday and Sunday’s sessions. I haven’t been to a writer’s conference for a while, and I truly think we had excellent writers and presenters in attendance.
I believe my total productive output is five poems and a piece of flash fiction, if not two. I also was inspired and have two poems waiting to be written. I will be reading the poems from the weekend 6pm May 21, 2011 for the open mic at the Village Book Shop! If you are in the area you should come by.
I sincerely hope that I will be able to present next year. I’ve got some ideas about what to present; one on poetry and one on fiction. Who knows? Perhaps I’ll be given that opportunity and maybe I’ll have a book on the table to sell. With a handlebar mustache.
