27. Along similar lines, do appearances play a big role in your stories? Tell us about them, or if not, how you go about designing your characters.
Appearance does play an important role. Just as in real life we judge others on how they appear to us. The same goes in my stories. I try to show enough details about a character without creating a ‘police report’ list. I try for a few distinctive features about the character. Everyone notices gender first in our society (and if it can’t be determined, well then, that makes for a very interesting characteristic). So after gender, many people will notice an additional physical characteristic, perhaps colors or shapes, or maybe posture and attitude. Eye color, hair color, nose shape, ear shape, don’t always matter. Sometimes the posture tells us so much more about the character.
